Calcium Supplements Linked to Heart Attacks

Calcium Supplements Linked to Heart AttacksCalcium supplements are taken to strengthen the bones and ward off osteoporosis. However, New Zealand researchers claim that calcium has little effect in boosting bone strength and can contribute a little risk to heart attack among older people. Instead of taking calcium supplements, researchers instead recommend to take the required calcium from the food being eaten.

The New Zealand researchers reviewed previously done researches and looked at the connection of calcium supplements and heart attacks. 11,921 people agreed to participate in the said research. The results showed that nearly 30 percent of the participants are likely to have heart attack especially to those who are older than 40 years old. The percentage might be a small number but it can still raise an alarm since so many people are taking calcium supplements around the world.

Experts suggest that the calcium needed by people should be acquired through foods that are rich with the said mineral. People on the other hand who are on the risk of acquiring osteoporosis should seek professional advice and take medications instead of taking calcium supplements. Taking such vitamin should be broken over the day so that calcium levels in the blood won’t increase beyond normal.

Now this causes an alarm since almost all people in the world are taking calcium supplements to make their bones stronger. I guess we need to seek the authorities regarding this matter but researchers are still on the process of finding its validity.
