HP CEO Resigns over False Expense Accounts

HP CEO Resigns over False Expense AccountsMark Hurd resigns as CEO of Hewlett-Packard. He had to resign after it was found out that he lied about the expense accounts he had, specifically the ones involving individual city dinners around the world with a female marketing consultant during the years 2007 to 2009. He now joins the list of popular personalities who did something stupid, as we scratch our heads trying to figure out why they did these things that definitely ruined their careers and lives.
Just for illustration, that list includes Tiger Woods, Elliot Spitzer,  and General Stanley McChrystal. The board of directors of HP forced  Mark Hurd’s resignation after finding out that, although he was initially accused of sexual harassment by the contractor, which was then refuted, he was otherwise found guilty of violating proper business conduct.
The violations of the standard business conduct by Mark Hurd, at its simplest, are false accounts for the expenses. This could even be worse; perhaps Mark Hurd may have given the consultant income for work not done, and other possible violations. He has violated his own mantra for leading, which is that of an open and honest leadership, which is relying on word of mouth and deeds, and adhering to ethical and legal standards.
