A security firm called Fortify Software is bought by Hewlett Packard. The HP company hopes that this purchase will strengthen their application security. Hewlett Packard will send out a third quarter report later this week, and it will probably include the purchase, but for now, they did not disclose any amount as to how much they paid for the purchase of Fortify.
The two companies made a closure of a deal, which stated that for the earlier stages right after the purchase, Fortify will stand on its own as a company which targets security. Over time, Hewlett Packard will eventually incorporate Fortify into their solutions and software business. Furthermore, Fortify Software will eventually be a part of HP’s optimization of business technology applications.
Among other security companies, HP is not nearly as popular as Symantec or McAfee; these two companies have the highest security market visibility, so this is just one of the moves by HP to get there at the top of the competition. In fact, many analysts have pointed out that this is Hewlett Packard’s weakness.
In order to fight that weakness, especially at a time where many other companies focus on security, HP plans to have two more purchases, such as SonicWALL and Websense.
