Oracle Sues Google on Java Copyright Infringements

Oracle Sues Google on Java Copyright InfringementsOracle sues Google for patent and copyright infringement over the Android phone software, regarding its use of Java. According to Karen Tillman, who is a spokeswoman for Oracle, Google has repeatedly used Java in developing Android, in a manner that has violated copyright laws. Tillman also added that Google is aware that they are doing this, yet they did not consider the violations.

As a result, Oracle will take all necessary actions to cure the infringements made against them. The law suit was filed last Thursday at the District Court of San Francisco, United States. So far, Google has not made any statement regarding the matter. Oracle bought the Java Company last year.  Java software allows java programs to run on any computer so long as a Java Virtual Machine is installed in that computer.

For Google Android Phones, Google developed its own version of the Java Virtual Machine, called the Dalvik, which allowed Java programs to run on the phone first by compiling it to Dalvik. According to Oracle, the Dalvik is a competitor to Java, and it’s development has violated copyright terms.

There are no indications that Oracle has approached Google first before filing a lawsuit against the company. Oracle probably just wants to get royalties from the success of Google Android Smartphones.
