Consumer Reports Compares iPad with Everything Else

ipad`sAn entity called Consumer Reports created an evaluation of the iPad, Apple’s premier tablet computer, by comparing it with other tablet computers in the market. The first category that they evaluated the iPad with is its overall view. According to the report, the iPad is really superior in terms of portability and versatility. Also, because of its touch screen feature, it is excellent in terms of navigation. A drawback, however, would be its video viewing, simply because it is not compatible with Flash. Furthermore, there is no memory card reader and USB Port.

The iPad had excellent ratings for web surfing and reading periodicals or journals. It was also rated excellent for reading eBooks and email, viewing photos and videos, and reading documents. However, it rated only fair for editing and writing documents. Its weight is 1.5 pounds and is priced at 500 dollars. It’s battery life lasts for at most 2 days.

The Netbook is a laptop which is less powerful compared to the iPad. It has a smaller screen, the iPad has a 9.7 inch screen, and it cannot handle games that have very high system requirements. Where it fared excellent is in reading email and documents, it is also very good for viewing photos, videos, and web surfing, typing and editing and writing documents.

Apple Executive Responsible for Antenna Design Resigns from Apple

Apple Executive Responsible for Antenna Design Resigns from AppleMark Papermaster, who is an executive from Apple, has left One Infinite Loop because of the dubbed antennagate scandal which has led to the design of the antenna of iPhone 4 which is so ineffectively placed. It is ineffectively placed in the sense that users stated that when they cover the antenna, which is located at the lower left portion of the device, the signal drops significantly and they cannot perform basic functions with their phone, including calling.
This was initially reported by The New York Times, and Papermaster was then asked to comment about the incident. He was texted regarding the matter, but he refused to comment about the situation. Many are now speculating whether he really resigned from his position, or whether he was punished by Apple because of the antenna design which was a detrimental flaw.
When Apple is asked, however, the entire company’s position regarding the matter is that Papermaster just had to resign, and in fact there is really no antennagate scandal in the first place. According to the company, this design flaw is found in all smart phones, and that the consequential effects are not that bad. We may disagree with that statement, but it is clear that the iPhone 4 is a great device in general.

New iPhone Leaves Voice Call in Question as it Ushered Video Call Capabilities

iPhone 4 Launch Leaves Voice Call QuestionsApple’s announcement of the newest version of iPhone, the iPhone 4, is highly anticipated. This was held at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference today, located in San Francisco. For most of those who attended the conference, there were many questions that were left unanswered.

Of course, there is no accurate review for the moment, because the release will still be on June 24. On the other hand, those who were present at the conference, especially the media, were able to get a sneak peek and sneak touch to the device. Some of their first impressions include the following: Apple has mastered the art of making beautiful designs. It also has a very good feel to the hand.

The design was also said to enhance the strength of the signal, but the Apple representatives did not say any claims about improved voice connection. Other questions come to mind, such as will the battery life really improve like they claim it to be. Will the improvements in the screen really matter? There are many who think that this improvement in screen technology is not really that big of an improvement.

Another question that is in the mind of those present at the conference is, How is Steve Jobs’ health? It was in jeopardy according to the news, but during the conference Jobs was very vibrant and energetically presenting his new product.

Meanwhile, Steve Ballmer will speak for WWDC as rumored, but the keynote address will be delivered by Steve Jobs, the Apple CEO himself.

No more AT&T Unlimited Plan for Mobile Data

AT&T Unlimited Data Plan ScrappedThe famous telecommunications company is planning to stop its unlimited service for mobile data. They say this will end up cheaper for around 98 percent of its customers.

AT&T is the exclusive provider for Apple’s iPhone. They say that the new rates, which will take effect on June 7, mean that if a customer uses his iPhone more often for web surfing than the regular customer, he will have to pay more to enjoy it.

The current rate of the company is $29.99 per month for unlimited web surfing. The new rate is said to benefit light surfers and will cost more for heavy users. The reason behind the rate change is the company’s idea to restrain numerous downloads by heavy users. They will implement this to solve the network problems they have experienced in the past years.

The new rates are $15 per month for 200 MB of data. According to AT&T, “That equals about 400 web pages, 1000 e-mails with no attachments, 50 online photos or 20 minutes of video.” If the user exceeds his limit, they are charged automatically another $15. Surprisingly, the company said that only 35% of their users use more than 200 megabytes monthly.

The next available rate is $25 monthly for 2 GB of data. This is ten times more data than the previous plan which is very affordable for the bulk users. However, AT&T shares that only 2% of its users avail of 2GB of data monthly. For excess of 2GB, customers are charged only $10 per extra gigabyte of data.

iPad users are also given a new rate of $25 per month for 2 GB of data.

The Positive Side of China’s Labor Unrest

Positive Side of China Labor UnrestWorkers in China protested, and the companies responded by increasing hefty pay. This is good news for China and the world, because it implies that the country is slowly leaning on towards the benefit of the workers. This is a good indication because it will lead to increase in domestic consumption. Aside from this, it is also one step towards global economic balance and would definitely be for the better.

This move also coincides very well with China’s aims of creating a new model for growth, one that is determined by consumption. According to Ting Lu, an economist, this new model demands that the GDP is redistributed more towards the labor force.

Examples of companies that heeded to the concern of the laborers are Honda Motor Company, which increased their pay raise to 24 percent. Another company is Foxconn, whose workers will get 30 percent increase, primarily sparked by incidents of suicide which are speculated to be due to poor working conditions, a speculation which is heavily defended by Apple’s CEO, Mr. Jobs.

The stories of these two companies are quite amazing, since China has been known to cover their ears from the woes of the workers. It has been estimated that China’s blue collar workers will continue to enjoy these benefits until 2012.
