Worse Situation for BP Oil Leak: It Will End in December

BP Oil Leak in Gulf of MexicoThe BP oil leak off the gulf of Mexico continues to worsen, and many predict that the worst possible scenario will be that the leak will stop by December. This is, according to Barack Obama, the worst environmental disaster in the history of the United States.

Thus far, BP’s efforts to plug the leak are not working. Worse, the coming hurricane season will only hinder the efforts. The consequences of a leaking well for up until Christmas will be detrimental to the environment. According to estimates, around 12,000 to 19,000 barrels are leaking every day.

This means unprecedented and unpredicted effects on the chemical composition of the ocean and effects on the species living on it. BP is quite unsure about their efforts, and there is no guarantee so far for their efforts to redirect the flow of the oil towards a boat on the ocean surface.

Of course, the even worse situation is when the leak will never be plugged. BP predicted that they can do it in three months, but some experts think that this is not possible. The upcoming hurricane season alone will force the boats collecting the oil to evacuate and leave the well leaking.
