Before every match fans predict which team is going to be the winner. Some times their prediction matches with the real result. But there is a sea creature which is predicting correctly about every match. The prognosticating octopus, which perfectly predicted the result of every game which is played by Germany in this World Cup including the loss to Spain in the semi-finals, sticks with the Spaniards against the Dutch in the final and ultimate match.

The name of the octopus is Paul. In a recent prediction it has given indication to the final result in the championship match. According to the predictor, the cup in going to be won by Spain before the second semifinals it had indicated that Spain is going to win the match and the result was the same. Now, again it is taking the side of the Spanish football team.

It also predicts that the third place achiever of the World Cup 2010 will be Germany. Paul’s popularity has earned him his own page in Facebook in addition to calls to lend his special super natural powers. A reporter who is a Greek asked whether Paul could predict the end of his country’s financial crisis or not, while in the Middle East commentators wanted to have Paul choose the next Iraqi prime minister.

And it seems Paul the Octopus gets it all right! Spain brings home the World Cup 2010 trophy beating out the Netherlands soccer squad. The German soccer team gets third place.

The price of gold reduced to $1,225 per ounce last Thursday in Europe. This is largely due to the rise of Euro against the dollar, implying that many consider that it’s highly risky to have a strong appetite for assets at the expense of bullion. The State Administration of Foreign Exchange, or SAFE, located in China, stated in their report that market for gold is not as suitable for allocation of assets because of its innate properties, including volatility, being illiquid and being small.

In New York, last Wednesday, gold was priced at $1,230.35. Now it’s price reduced to $1,223.20. Furthermore, future deliveries for the U.S., particularly in August, are now priced at $1,224.70. The Spanish debt auction in particular caused the rise of Euro, because this returned the confidence on how Spain will deal with its huge debt. The policy decisions of the European Central Bank also contributed.

Previously, when the euro was losing considerably, many investors demanded for gold because they wanted to diversify from the currency, according to many analysts. Now that the euro has increased, this buying of gold has been reduced. There is in fact an interim consolidation, and the future is most likely to be that the euro will fall down again, and that means that the gold will rise, but certainly, the situation can go both ways again in the future.

The 2010 South Africa World Cup ends with Spain beating Brazil 3-1. Bet you didn’t see that coming?

To settle your boggled minds, you should know that this match was a simulation of the entire World Cup games. The simulation used was the recently launched 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa video game by EA Sports for the Xbox 360 platform. The game was set to play all 64 games in the World Cup which will start on June 11. The supposed 90 minute game was completed in 15 minutes by the computer.

Matt Prior, the producer of the game, says that the simulation is very close to the real thing. He adds, “We have a massive group of data collectors in each area of the world and those guys, all fanatics, collect player attributes like speed, strength and tackling, over 40 attributes for each player, and we feed all that data into the computer.”

The game not only includes the 32 teams who qualified for South Africa but also other national teams which are close to 200 in number. This game is closely related to FIFA ’10 and the upcoming FIFA ’11 which has been played rampantly online in the past year. These games can be played on Xbox, Wii or PS consoles.

The video game takes a lot of data into account. A new feature they added is the altitude of the playing field. This now affects the physics of the ball as well as the players’ stamina.
