Iran Urged to Stop Stoning Women

Iran Should Stop Stoning WomenAccording to the article 5 of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights, no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. But in Iran this rule is not being followed by the government.

Sakineh Mohammadie Ashtiani who was a mother of two children at that time could be stoned to death at any moment under the terms of a death sentence which was handed down by the Iranian authorities in 2006. It was because she had an illegal relationship with another guy out of marriage. Ashtiani endured that physical retribution in front of her son in 2006. Her son was of 17 years at that time. He had to see her mother getting the crucial punishment.

Sakineh Ashtiani, the convicted lady is from the northern city of Tabriz and she was convicted of adultery in the year of 2006. Some lawyers who are from human rights believe that a language barrier prohibited her from fully comprehending court dealings at the time. She is of Azerbaijani descent and speaks Turkish in stead of Farsi.

Though this is a crime, one should be punished in limit. The punishment that Iran Government gives to them is too much. So they must stop these activities and should follow the Human Rights’ rules.

Spain Wins World Cup Simulation

Spain Xbox World Cup 2010 SimulationThe 2010 South Africa World Cup ends with Spain beating Brazil 3-1. Bet you didn’t see that coming?

To settle your boggled minds, you should know that this match was a simulation of the entire World Cup games. The simulation used was the recently launched 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa video game by EA Sports for the Xbox 360 platform. The game was set to play all 64 games in the World Cup which will start on June 11. The supposed 90 minute game was completed in 15 minutes by the computer.

Matt Prior, the producer of the game, says that the simulation is very close to the real thing. He adds, “We have a massive group of data collectors in each area of the world and those guys, all fanatics, collect player attributes like speed, strength and tackling, over 40 attributes for each player, and we feed all that data into the computer.”

The game not only includes the 32 teams who qualified for South Africa but also other national teams which are close to 200 in number. This game is closely related to FIFA ’10 and the upcoming FIFA ’11 which has been played rampantly online in the past year. These games can be played on Xbox, Wii or PS consoles.

The video game takes a lot of data into account. A new feature they added is the altitude of the playing field. This now affects the physics of the ball as well as the players’ stamina.

South Korea Seeks UN Security Council Help

South Korea Seeks UN Security Council SupportSouth Korea has plans of calling on the UN Security Council to handle the North Korea problems after Pyongyang threatened that war could erupt soon.

South Korea President Lee Myung-Bak is appealing to its allies and the international community to aid in their retaliation and to help force North Korea to stop its nuclear weapons program.

The United States is also monitoring the North after the incident killing 46 sailors happened on March. The 1200 ton Cheonan was concluded to have been sunk by a torpedo launched by North Korea. This finding is that of the multinational probe done by South Korea’s allies.

South Korea has already taken some measures to keep their communist neighbor at bay. One of these is cutting of trade with the North. Seoul is constantly beseeching the Security Council to take action and likewise urging Pyongyang to stop its nuclear plans.

Admiral Robert Willard has said there doesn’t seem to be any unusual movements from north of the border. US forces have been told to be vigilant and be prepared for anything. Although they have warned of an impending war, Pyongyang has yet to make a move. “Everyone in the region is watching North Korea very closely,” said Willard.

North Korea still denies the allegation of the multinational probe and considers it a mere fabrication. They feel that the US and its allies have an ulterior motive in wanting them to be tasked to the Security Council.

President Lee mentioned that if war is inevitable, South Korea and the US will engage them if necessary.

Malaysia Pleads Israel to Allow Irish Ship in Gaza

Malaysia Pleads Israel About Irish ShipThe Malaysian government has pleaded with Israel to allow their aid ship to safely head to Gaza. The Irish ship funded by Malaysia is the MV Rachel Corrie. Onboard are 11 activists which includes a Nobel Peace laureate named Mairead Corrigan. Corrigan is an Irish peace activist who seeks to bring attention to the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians.

The Rachel Corrie is the remaining member of an international convoy. The other members of the fleet were boarded by Israeli soldiers who killed activists onboard. The ship is funded by an NGO headed by Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. The organization is the Perdana Global Peace Org.

One of the activists on the ship, Shamsul Akmar, has said, “We do not know what to expect, but hope that we will be given safe passage to get the aid to Gaza.” Akmar is the one who notified Al Jazeera that the people on the ship are peace activists. He continues, “If the Israeli army attacks us and tries to board our ship, we will not attempt any resistance.”

The response of the Israeli government didn’t seem to conform to the activists though. They have offered to escort them and deliver the aid. Egypt was said to help as well. The activists, though, are worried that if this were the case, not all cargo might be delivered. The reason for this speculation is because the ship carries cement with it. Cement has long been banned in Israel for fears of being used to make bunkers.

Russia Investigates South Korean Ship Attack

Russia Investigates South Korean Ship AttackShaken by the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship, Russian experts arrived in Seoul last Monday to shed some light on the issue. They will review the findings of the investigation that is blaming North Korea as the culprit. The incident occurred while South Korean troops were having a practice sortie near the tense border dividing the two.

South Korean is seeking support from the U.N. in the hopes of them acting against the North. If the experts endorse the original findings of the investigation, other major world powers could back the decision to implement sanctions on Pyongyang for the attack. The attack, which killed 46 sailors, happened two months ago.

The South has shared their findings with Wen Jiabao, Premier of the People’s Republic of China, last weekend but China is still holding back from condemning its long time ally.

Jiabao is currently in Japan where he is facing more pressure to take a stand against North Korea. This Monday he met with Yukio Hatoyama, the Japanese Prime Minister, who fully supports South Korea in this incident. He is all for bringing North Korea before the United Nations Security Council where they will be sanctioned or even condemned.

On the other hand, North Korea has vehemently denied the strong allegations against them. They even made mention that the multinational investigation was merely a biased probe being conducted by the South’s allies. The other countries involved in the investigation are America, Australia, Great Britain and Sweden.
